Luke is a current world record holder and 72-time World Champion in the sport of jump rope. He is one of the most decorated athletes in the history of the sport, and for many years has dedicated his time to mentoring world-class athletes and coaching at local, national and international jump rope workshops.

Luke shares his expert insights on how skipping is not only a fun and accessible way to get fit, but also a powerful exercise for boosting heart health. His number one tip to get kids involved is through the Jump Rope for Heart program.

I remember when I was at school, let’s go back 20 years ago, Jump Rope for Heart was a big thing and that’s sort of how most people discover the sport. To get involved at a recreational level, I would say, start by reaching out to your school to see if they have some sort of Jump Rope for Heart program Luke Boon

Three out of four primary school students don’t get the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day, putting them at greater risk of heart disease as adults. Here’s the good news, skipping is an ideal exercise for healthy hearts, muscles and bones and Jump Rope for Heart can get kids moving, helping them to meet the Physical Activity and Exercise Guidelines for all Australians.

“The power of jump rope is what it does for your heart and your muscles. It's absolutely incredible, there's not one downside to it.” – Luke Boon

Still not convinced? Here’s why the World Champion thinks it’s the perfect sport that all kids will love:

  1. Requires minimal equipment, making it accessible to kids from all walks of life.
  2. Takes up minimal space — perfect for small school playgrounds.
  3. It is fun, non-competitive and a great social activity for kids of all ages.
